COUNT Function in Google Sheets
Use COUNT to count how many cells in a range hold a number — text and blank cells are ignored.
=COUNT(A2:A100)
Returns how many cells in A2:A100 contain a number. Text and empty cells do not count.
How it works
COUNT looks at every cell in the range and counts only the ones that hold a numeric value — including dates and times, which Sheets stores as numbers. Text, TRUE/FALSE and blank cells are skipped. Use it when you need "how many entries have a real number" rather than "how many rows are filled".
Variations
Count numbers across a block
=COUNT(A2:D100)
Counts every numeric cell in the range.
Count blank cells instead
=COUNTBLANK(A2:A100)
COUNTBLANK returns how many cells are empty.
Count everything (text too)
=COUNTA(A2:A100)
Switch to COUNTA when you also want text and dates entered as text.

FAQ
Does COUNT count dates?
Yes. Google Sheets stores dates and times as numbers, so COUNT includes them.
Why does COUNT return 0 when my cells are full?
The cells probably contain text, not numbers — for example numbers typed with a currency symbol as text. Use COUNTA to count them, or convert them with VALUE.
How do I count numbers that meet a condition?
Use COUNTIF, e.g. =COUNTIF(A2:A100,">0") to count positive numbers.
