SUMIF in Google Sheets
Use SUMIF to add up only the numbers whose row meets one condition — total sales for one region, all amounts marked "Paid", everything over $100.
=SUMIF(B2:B100, ">100", C2:C100)
Adds the values in C2:C100 only for rows where B2:B100 is greater than 100. The condition goes in quotes.
How it works
SUMIF takes a range to test, a criterion, and (optionally) a sum range. If you leave off the sum range, it adds the tested range itself. Text and comparison operators must be inside quotes; combine an operator with a cell reference using &, e.g. ">"&E1.
Variations
Sum by an exact text label
=SUMIF(A2:A100, "West", C2:C100)
Totals column C for every row where column A equals West.
Sum where text contains a word
=SUMIF(A2:A100, "*urgent*", C2:C100)
* matches any characters, so this catches "very urgent" too.
Compare against a cell value
=SUMIF(B2:B100, ">"&E1, C2:C100)
Uses whatever number is typed in E1 as the threshold.
Sum the tested range itself
=SUMIF(C2:C100, ">0")
With no sum range, SUMIF adds the same column it tests.

What is the difference between SUMIF and SUMIFS?
SUMIF applies one condition. SUMIFS applies several conditions across several ranges at once, and its sum range comes first.
Can SUMIF use two conditions?
Not on its own — add two SUMIFs together, or switch to SUMIFS for an AND condition.
How do I SUMIF by a value in another cell?
Join the operator and the cell with &: =SUMIF(B:B, ">"&E1, C:C).
